The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) in Fort Pierce, FL, is a is a grassroots nonprofit agency that has been dedicated to promoting family strengthening through our youth development program that provides academic literacy, STEAM, mentoring and other enrichment activities to children & families in St. Lucie County.

The MRC was founded in November 2009 by Marcus Dixon.  The program was birthed in response to the pressing academic needs of children, and families experiencing low neighborhood attachment (discriminatory practices because of economic status). Mr Dixon felt it was his responsibility to champion unconditional positive regard (love, acceptance, understanding & affection) towards these youth and their families in order to make change.   building a society where every young person can easily realize their potential and achieve their goals. We believe that providing children a nurturing environment is essential to their overall development. MRC believes today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and through personalized attention and guidance MRC is providing them with all the resources they need to thrive as leaders in years to come.

These attitudes and beliefs are purposefully woven into the program’s daily literacy practices and demonstrated in the center’s day to day practices.  As a response to the growing need for a center that could address the unique challenges faced by the diverse communities in St Lucie County, especially Fort Pierce. The city has a rich history of cultural diversity, with a significant population of African American, Hispanic, and Haitian residents, among others. However, there was a lack of resources and support for these communities, and MRC was established with the goal of bridging the gaps and creating a safe space for all.

One of the key milestones in the history of the MRC was the establishment of its first physical location in 2017.  With the support of local community leaders, the MRC secured a facility that served as a hub for its activities. The center became a focal point for various cultural events, workshops, and programs.

As the MRC looks towards the future and continuing the work Mr Dixon began, it remains committed to its mission to building a society where every young person can easily realize their potential and achieve their goals. MRC believes that providing children a nurturing environment is essential to their overall development. This is accomplished by supporting the child’s school success through our year round extended day academic literacy programs and complementary learning activities which integrate both school and non-school support to ensure children have the skills needed to succeed.
